University of Crete holds its place

The 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, published on 26 September 2018, ranks University of Crete (UoC) 351-400 again this year out of 1,258 institutions worldwide, up from 980 universities ranked last year. The University also holds its position within Greece – first out of the 8 Greek universities included in this ranking.

The THE World University Rankings, now in its 15th year, focus on a selected frame of the world’s research intensive universities, rather than the total global ‘pool’ of over 20,000 Higher Education Institutions. The increasing number of ranked universities reflects primarily increasing representation from S.E.Asia, particularly China. 13 indicators are used to measure the performance in teaching, research output and impact, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. In one particular area, citations, used as an indicator of research impact and influence, the UoC continues to punch above its weight – ranking #143 worldwide (compared with #144 last year).
